Old Phuket Town's street art scene has grown substantially over the past decade, turning many of the old quarter's walls and alleyways into an informal open-air gallery.
How it started
A Phuket Town street art festival held in the mid-2010s commissioned murals from Thai and international artists across the old quarter, sparking a wider trend of building owners commissioning their own murals in the years since.
What to look for
Murals range from large-scale figurative work to smaller playful pieces tucked into side alleys — many depict local life, Sino-Portuguese heritage themes, or nods to Phuket's tin-mining history, rather than generic street art imagery.
Where it's concentrated
Soi Rommanee and the surrounding lanes off Thalang Road hold some of the highest concentration of well-known pieces, easily combined with the walking route in our Old Town heritage walk guide.
A note on respect
These are murals on active, occupied buildings — a normal part of the streetscape rather than a museum exhibit — so the usual courtesy of not blocking doorways or private entrances for photos applies.
