A self-guided heritage walk through Old Phuket Town

A suggested route through the streets that matter most.

Old Phuket Town rewards slow, on-foot exploring more than almost anywhere else on the island — here's a reasonable route to follow.

Start on Thalang Road

The town's main heritage strip, lined with the most complete run of restored Sino-Portuguese shophouses — walk it slowly rather than rushing through, since the architectural detail (shutters, tiles, façade colours) is the whole point.

Detour onto Dibuk and Krabi Roads

Quieter side streets with their own share of restored buildings, generally less crowded than Thalang Road itself, especially outside weekend market hours.

Stop at a shophouse café

See our coffee culture guide for where to pause partway through — several of the best-preserved buildings on this walk now function as cafés rather than private homes.

Time it right

Weekday mornings are quietest for photography and unhurried walking; Sunday evenings bring the Walking Street market to the same streets, trading quiet for atmosphere and street food.

Rough duration

A relaxed version of this walk, including café stops, comfortably fills half a day — longer if you're stopping into galleries and shops along the way.
