Breakfast in Phuket ranges from an included hotel buffet to genuinely worthwhile local alternatives, depending how far you're willing to step outside the resort.
Hotel buffets
Most mid-range and above hotels include a breakfast buffet mixing Western staples (eggs, pastries, cereal) with a Thai section (rice porridge/jok, noodle soup, stir-fried rice) — a reasonable option, though rarely the most memorable meal of the trip.
Local Thai breakfast
Jok (rice porridge, often with pork and a soft egg) and khao tom (a lighter rice soup) are common local breakfast choices, found at simple streetside stalls open early — a genuinely different, more local start to the day than a hotel buffet.
Coffee and pastries
Old Phuket Town's café scene (see our coffee culture guide) is the best bet for a slower, café-style breakfast with good coffee, generally better than what's on offer inside most hotel buffets.
