Staying connected in Phuket is straightforward — Thailand has good mobile coverage across the island's populated areas, including most beaches.
Tourist SIM cards
The three main Thai carriers (AIS, dtac, True) all sell tourist SIM packages at the airport and at convenience stores island-wide, usually bundling a set number of days with a fixed data allowance. Airport kiosks are the easiest starting point on arrival — bring your passport, which is required for SIM registration by law.
eSIMs
Several eSIM providers now let you activate Thai data before you even land, which avoids the airport queue entirely if your phone supports eSIM.
Comparing the carriers
All three major networks cover the main tourist areas well; differences show up more in rural or hilly spots and in longer-stay package pricing than in day-to-day coverage on the west coast. Convenience stores (7-Eleven in particular) sell top-up credit and data add-ons for all three networks island-wide, useful if a tourist package runs out mid-trip.
Wi-Fi
Most hotels, cafés and restaurants in tourist areas offer free Wi-Fi, though speeds vary. It's rarely a substitute for a local data SIM if you need reliable maps and messaging on the move.
